FORTUNY FABRICS

Much of Mariano Fortuny’s inspiration came from textile archives, which include ornate brocades and embroideries of ancient design that were collected by his father. But it was their patterns and motifs that he was most drawn to. Fortuny registered several patents for techniques of stenciling and block printing between 1901 and 1934. The fabrics are still produced on the original, long staple Egyptian cotton cloth with or without gold overlay. The exact process is often copied, (never successfully), and remains a secret never to be revealed.
